Laser Open Event Documents - NOR, SIs & ResultsPirates Day Saturday Sept 11, 2010
Ahoy there m’hearties!
Pirate originality. Again! Nothing like it. Oogh, aagh!
You’ve been sailing the seven seas all summer long but Saturday, Sept. 11th, will be Pirate’s Day at Wraysbury to show off your booty and your scars.
There’ll be fun and games for pirates young and young at heart alike! There’ll be prizes for the best fancy dress and decorated boats and there’ll be walking the plank for any as step out of line.
For those who don’t know, Pirate’s Day is dressing up, team games, water-fights and messing about in boats. Last year we had 40+ kids and a great time was had by all. Participation will cost you £5/child own boat and £10/child otherwise, pay on the day and friends and guests will be welcome.
As always YOU will be responsible for the safety of everyone in your party throughout the day.
Please arrive by 10:00 AM and we’ll be finished by 6:00 PM. The galley and bar will be open as usual: please help galley planning by indicating if you expect to buy lunch.
To run the day and arrange the kids into teams we need to know well in advance who will participate. Also unfortunately I will have to leave you all at 3:30 so we also need volunteers in advance for all of:
1. Pirate(or Pirate-ess)-in-Chief.
2. Galley x 3
3. Running games x 2
4. Team mentors x 6
5. Safety boat crew x 6
6. Bar x 1
7. Judge and Jury
Please REPLY to join in (Oppie email address is onteh Contacts page), including the following information:
Kids:
name, age, galley lunch (y/n)?
Adults:
name, role, galley lunch (y/n)?
Of course there are lots of places to buy Pirate gear but this is one we’ve used before: http://www.pirateparty.co.uk/index.html
The Wraysbury villagers are barring their windows as I write so reply now to let us know you’ll be joining in with the mayhem. Honour amongst pirates, and all that. Oogh, aagh!
Get your parrots stuffed and your sabres ready: the skull and bones are coming!
Andy
Members - is your current email address on our distribution list?
To keep you up to date the club sends out a minimum of one email each month about developments, activities and improvements. At peak season they can be more than one per week.
Are you receiveing them? If not, then your email address is not on our distirbution list.
To check, please send an email to the Sailing Secretary who is managing this list. You can add a second email address (e.g. your husband/ wife/ partner) the same way.
The Sailing Secreatary’s email address is “sailing.secretary” followed by “@“ and “wlsc.org.uk”.
Club Regatta & Commodore's Cup
The Club Regatta and Commodore’s Cup weekend is held in June and has events and activities to suit all ages and abilities.
If you are still in the early stages of learing to sail then the Saturday Regatta races are informal and full of encouragement to help you improve and have fun at the same time.
If you can get round a course then enter the Commodore’s Cup on Sunday. These race results have a personal handicap applied to the race times. This means that the regular series winners have to work a lot harder than normal even to finish in the middle of the fleet, so everyone has a good chance to win the trophy - at all levels of ability.
Schedule of events:
Saturday 3rd July:
1.30 Fun / Beginners race 1
3.30 Fun / Beginners race 2
5.00 Family relay race
5.30 Bring your own food to BBQ
Don’t be put off if you haven’t got a boat or have never done a race. We will get anyone who wants to sail out on the water. There are club boats and there are members who will be willing to share.
Sunday 4th July: Commodores Cup
10.30 Commodores Cup 1
12.30 Commodores Cup 2
2.30 Commodores Cup 3
Personal handicaps will be applied (based upon previous results).
Includes gold fleet oppies.
The club boats are also available for any member wishing to sail them in the Commodores Cup racing too.
Any questions?
Then please contact Mark SmallwoodThe Club Road Gate
The locking arrangement at the club gate has been improved making it much easier to get to the lock from both sides. The right gate now opens inwards.
Please ensure the red chain is wrapped around the vertical bar so that it is just slack (see photo) and not left with a big loop hanging down.
