WLSC members figure in Optimist squads
Congratulations to five of our young sailors.
Robert Baddeley (GBR 5803) and James Taylor (GBR 5857) in the IOCA National Squad.
Jamie Webb (GBR 5742) and Jenny Smallwood (GBR 5611) in the IOCA Intermediate squad
Jonathan Baddeley (GBR 5798) in the Optimist South East Zone squad for 2009/10.
The fact that Wraysbury consistently gets young sailors into these training squads is testament to the excellent training and coaching delivered by parents and the Fleet Captains.
Well done all, and best wishes for a successful 2010 to all of you.
Did you know you can get your own WLSC polo shirt?

RS Feva European championships, which finished on Lake Garda on Saturday ... not an easy event, with lightish winds until the last day, when thankfully it blew 20knots, and Ollie came through from lying 4th to win with a 1, 7, 5 on the last day after 14 races in a fleet of 80 boats. After discards all Ollie’s results were in single figures in a Gold fleet of 40 boats.
Robert Baddely and James Taylor, also both of WLSC finished a creditable 12th having succumbed to the stronger winds on the final day. They were running first when the cut into Silver and Gold fleets was made earlier in the week.
Commodores Cup Weekend
Saturday 4th July was Regatta day with several families enjoying simple cruising and racing in the sunshine followed by a BBQ.
Sunday 5th was Commodore’s Cup day. The three race series was run using Personal Handicaps which means that the regularly successful sailors have to sail out of their skins to win (which they didn’t) and the playing field is levelled. As a result the normal run of events was turned on its head by this method and the first race was run by Stan Metcalfe, the Master of the Fleet. Unfortunately the effort must have drained him as he was not able to build on this magnisficent start and the overall winners were:
1st Gareth Mills
2nd Howard Edwards
3rd Mark Smallwood.
Many thanks to Mark for coming up with a handicapping schedule that meant the corrected elapsed times were very competitive and represented great racing.

Wraysbury at the Laser 4.7 European Championships
Huge congratulations to Ollie Cooper and Chris Taylor. These young men have qualified to go to the Laser 4.7 European Championships in Helsinki in mid August. They are part of a team of 11 boys and 7 girls, and competition for places is really tough.
Not only that, but they have also been selected as part of the RYA Summer Squad for the Laser 4.7’s. This means that they will get excellent training and race practice to hone their undoubted skills.
Have a great summer, lads (and parents)..
