Handicap Racing ready reckoner

Racing with mixed dinghy classes is based on the Portsmouth Number scheme administered by the RYA. This scheme provides each class of dinghy with a number that is used to correct its elapsed time for the race allowing a comparative result to be obtained.

For club racing, most helms would like a quick indication of how they are doing without waiting for the overall results to be calculated. In some cases, especially during seasonal series, this can be quite a while after the event.

In the table below you will find links to a series of 'Ready Reckoners'. These are simple charts that compare a 'Standard' boat with two other classes.

The standard boat is the fastest of the three and the table gives you a minute by minute guide as to how much longer than the standard boat you have to finish. The sheets have been designed to be printed on A4 paper, but are A5 in size so you can trim them in half and laminate to a suitable size to keep in your kit bag.If you would like to see other combinations of boats then send an email to wlsc<at>wlsc.org.uk giving your choice of Standard boat (the fastest of the three) and the two comparison boats and we will see what we can do.
